However, it can also be one of the busiest and most chaotic times, where it’s almost certain that something will be forgotten. One thing you don’t want to forget is the holiday centerpiece. It can be a great addition to your holiday decor, but it can also be overwhelming to create the perfect one. That’s why I love these simple yet elegant centerpieces that feature a floating candle. Choosing Your Greenery & Barries to Create a Holiday Centerpiece in 3 Easy Steps

Holiday greenery is an essential part of creating a festive atmosphere and can add a beautiful touch to your holiday centerpiece. Here are some traditional holiday greenery options, their scents, colors, and meanings.

Pine

Pine is one of the most popular holiday greenery options, known for its fresh and invigorating scent. The needles are usually a deep, rich green color, and the branches are sturdy enough to support ornaments and decorations. Pine trees are also a symbol of longevity, fertility, and prosperity in some cultures.

Cedar

Cedar is another popular holiday greenery option known for its spicy, woody scent. The branches are usually a lighter green color than pine, and the needles are softer and more delicate. Cedar is often used in wreaths and garlands and is a symbol of strength and endurance in some cultures.

Holly

Holly is a traditional holiday greenery option that is known for its bright red berries and dark green leaves. The berries are a favorite of birds, making them a symbol of abundance and protection. Holly is also associated with the winter solstice and is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe is a holiday greenery option that is often hung over doorways or used in wreaths. It has small, green leaves and produces small, white berries. Mistletoe is a symbol of love and fertility and is often used in holiday traditions, such as kissing under the mistletoe.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a popular holiday greenery option that is known for its fresh, minty scent. The leaves are a silvery-green color and are often used in wreaths and garlands. Eucalyptus is also believed to have healing properties and is used in aromatherapy.

Cranberries

Using cranberries in your holiday centerpiece is a simple yet stunning way to add a pop of color and texture to your decor. Cranberries are a versatile fruit that can be used in a variety of ways to create a beautiful and festive centerpiece.

Keyword: candle holders, Candles, Holiday
Yield: 1 Centerpiece
Cost: $10

Equipment

  • scissors

Materials

  • 1 Candle Floating Candle Beeswax burns longer, cleaner & smells nicer compared to other waxes.
  • 1 Container Cocktail Glass or Bowl There are specialty containers for floating candles, but you can use something as simple as a margarita glass or even a candy dish/bowl. Just make sure that the opening is large enough for the candle to float around.
  • 1 Bag Fresh Cranberries These become available in the grocery stores leading up to Thanksgiving and are available through Christmas
  • 1 Bunch Freshly Trimmered Greenery The amount needed will depend of the size of your container. If you select different types, your centerpiece will have different shades of green, adding more depth. You can trim a few twigs from your own trees & bushes or you can purchase greenery from garden centres during the holidays.
  • 1 Glass Water You may need more water depending on the size of container you have selected.

Instructions

  • Step 1: (It is best to create this centerpiece in the place you are planning to display it, it can be difficult to move after it has been filled with water) Fill your container so that it is 3/4's of the way filled from the top. As you add items into your container the water level will rise, if you fill it all the way up in the beginning it will overflow.
  • Step 2: Begin adding the greenery & cranberries into your container. Starting with the greenery, you may need to trim or shape the twigs to fit in your container. Alternate between different types of greenery to create a depth of color (if you chose to select multiple types of greens). You don't want to overfill your container with greens, in this case, less may be best. Next, add the cranberries to the container. They float and most likely all of them will be hanging around the top. It is possible for them to be held down by some of the greenery, you could give this a try if you are going for a layered look. Just make sure to leave enough space at the top for your candle to fit and float.
  • Step 3: Add your candle to the container. If you have some room you could add a sprig of greenery to the top, if you prefer to just have your candle and cranberries, all you need to do now is top up with water (if needed) so that the level is at least 1/2 inch below the rim of your container.
